Some FAQ’s answered by us

Installing boilers, heating, pipework and kitchens isn’t a job most of us would even attempt to do. This doesn’t mean however that we don’t long to know more about the intricate details of a powerflush. Sometimes knowing a little bit of information about the processes involved in heating your home can save you a lot of time and money. Here are a few frequently asked questions that we have answered for you. What is a vent, and what does it do for the plumbing system? The most obvious reason for vent pipes is for sewer gases to be released outside of the dwelling. If you look on the roof, you can see pipes sticking out at a height of aprox 12″ high. This is beacuse for every pipe that goes down, there needs to be one going up. problems begin to arise when these pipes are not built into the design. When liquid goes down a pipe, it needs to be followed by air or the trapped liquid will attempt to suck air from the other outlets on the plumbing fixture- sink, drains, batch etc. The gurgling noise, accompanied by the pungent aroma is the systems way of releasing the gases. Without vents the action of draining one fixture may cause another fixture in the house to back up, proving rather unpleasant. A waste and vent system will keep the sewer gas out of the building and drain every fixture properly. For more information contact our team What type of material is used for water pipework? There are several types of pipes used to bring water to and from our residential and commercial properties but the most widely used is Copper. Copper comes in 3 grades- M for thin wall pipes, used mainly in homes, L for thicker wall pipes used mainly outside and K the thickest used for transporting water to and from the water mains. Copper is used because it has durability, longevity and it connects well to valves. However if the water has a PH level of 6.5 or less then it’s wise to install a treatment system to raise the PH level to the preferred level of 7.2-8.0. We have many years of experience installing pipework into commercial properties so feel free to contact us for more information.
